Safer Recruitment Assessment

Specific Safer Recruitment training and assessment were developed in light of some of the recommendations of the Bichard report.   It is mandatory that no interview panel be convened without at least one panel member having been trained in safer recruitment practices.  To become accredited, you need to have undertaken training and completed the Safer Recruitment Assessment.  You will then receive your accreditation certificate, which can then become part of your evidence of the safer recruitment practices within your school.

Please note that from 1st November 2009 the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) took over responsibility for the Safer Recruitment course from the National College of School Leadership (NCSL).  Accreditation by either organisation will comply with the requirement to be trained, and those who have undertaken the NCSL will not need to re-take the CWDC version at this stage.

You can become accredited in two ways:

1) Safer Recruitment Workshop

Please see our training pages for more information on this route.

Also, please note that if you attended an EPS Safer Recruitment Workshop prior to September 2007 and have not undertaken the NCSL or CWDC assessment, you will still need to complete this assessment to become accredited. Please contact eps.support.team@hants.gov.uk to request the separate assessment.

2) On-line training

You can undertake the CWDC on-line training, completing the assessment at the end of the training. Please note this training can take around five or six hours in total. Please note that you will need to apply for a logon (if you do not already have one) and that if you wish to be formally accredited and obtain a certificate you will need to undertake the assessment under your own logon.

For more information on this route, please see the CWDC website: www.cwdcouncil.org.uk/safeguarding.

For other safeguarding training in schools, e.g. CPLO and whole-staff training, please see the Safeguarding Unit's training pages, particularly the Training Pathway document. http://www3.hants.gov.uk/childrens-services/schoolsandcolleges/safeguarding-children-in-education.htm.
