Sensory Loss Team

Sensory Loss teams work with people with hearing loss and sight loss across the county and can carry out an assessment to identify the help you may need. Sensory staff can also provide training to help you find solutions to the everyday problems that arise and give information about the equipment available.

The sensory loss services team work with each of the 3 following categories for sight, hearing and dual sensory loss.

Sight loss

Experiencing a sight loss can be an emotional time and will often result in every day tasks such as cooking, reading, going out and working, becoming quite difficult. If you are experiencing a sight loss that is not fully correctable by wearing spectacles and is likely to be long-term or permanent then you might benefit from speaking to a member of the Sensory Team.,

Hearing loss

A number of people experience a degree of hearing loss at some stage in their life and there are a variety of causes of this. If you are experiencing difficulty with your hearing it is important to seek medical advise from your GP (doctor), who may wish to refer you to your local Audiology or Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) department.

  If you have had a medical diagnosis and have had a hearing test within the past 5 years, but are experiencing difficulty with everyday tasks then the Sensory Loss Team - hearing loss may be able to help you

   

Dual sensory loss

The term dual sensory loss is used when a person has both a sight loss and a hearing loss. Some people have a period of time between loosing their sight and hearing so have perhaps adjusted to one loss already, for others the dual loss might occur simultaneously. In any case, having a dual sensory loss can cause many difficulties both emotionally and practically for both the person and their family or carer.
